![]() ![]() The book has a concept unlike anything I’ve ever read. Review: The Last Boy and Girl in the WOrld, Siobhan Vivian ❀ Based on Actual Events This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. ❃ I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Because it’s not always clear what’s worth fighting for and what you should let become a memory. It just might not turn out the way she thought. It’s the end of Aberdeen, but the beginning of Keeley’s first love story. The reward almost always outweighs the risk. You might do things you normally wouldn’t. There’s a weird sort of bravery that comes from knowing there’s nothing left to lose. The goal is to make the most of every minute they still have together.Īnd for Keeley, that means taking one last shot at the boy she’s loved forever. While the adults plan for the future, box up their possessions, and find new places to live, Keeley Hewitt and her friends decide to go out with a bang. ![]() What if your town was sliding underwater and everyone was ordered to pack up and leave? How would you and your friends spend your last days together? ![]() 5/31/2023 0 Comments Joe klein primary colors![]() Much debate ensued as to the identity of the author, with several possible authors being put forward, including George Stephanopoulos, Doonesbury cartoonist Garry Trudeau, and political journalist Joe Klein. The book spent nine weeks as number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Themes of the book include adultery, sexual promiscuity, idealism, politics, and the role of the media in the political process and celebrity, culminating with Burton having to choose between idealism and realism. The novel follows the presidential campaign of Governor Jack Stanton, an overweight womanizer with a gift for politics, and is narrated by Henry Burton, an idealistic young black man who quickly rises within the ranks of Stanton’s staff. The controversy stemmed from the resemblance of many characters to real-life counterparts, leading many to believe that the novel must have been written by a political insider. A film based on the novel was released in 1998. Loosely based on Governor Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential bid, Joe Klein’s controversial novel Primary Colors was published anonymously in 1996. ![]() 5/31/2023 0 Comments The Wall by William Sutcliffe![]() I should mention the excellent narrator, Nicholas Camm, who did an excellent job of reading this novel. It reminded me very much of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, both were highly effective novels. ![]() Unfortunately not all his actions have favourable outcomes and in this respect the story is very realistic. Not only does this book offer teenage readers a look at both sides, but the main character, Joshua, presents a good moral character, trying his very best to do what he feels is right, even when it is frightening, and even dangerous to do so. Of course he can't resist investigating and what he sees and learns from this and subsequent visits, will change him forever. ![]() When Joshua's football goes over a wall into a building site, he climbs over to retrieve it and stumbles upon a tunnel that stretches beyond the wall into an area that represents The West Bank of Palestine. Liev, Joshua's step-father, is a very different man, who has strong opinions about the threat posed by 'The Other Side'. His father died serving in the army, but Joshua never understood who he had been fighting against and his father made a point of never leaving the house in his uniform. Joshua is a teenager, living in Amarias, with his mother and her new husband. (Although it never actually mentions these countries by name). In my opinion, it managed to show both sides of the Israeli, Palestinian situation, how each fears the other and suffers as a result. ![]() ![]() I was hugely impressed by this well balanced book, aimed at Young Adults, and with a hard hitting message. ![]() |
